Reiki Healing and Reflexology - Midland Ontario

Reiki compliments and enhances the effects of other healing methods, going where it is needed and do what is needed to facilitate healing.

Reiki balances the subtle frequencies of your energetic body. Reiki healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

With the clients permission, I use Reiki during my Reflexology sessions in my office in Midland Ontario. Reiki has levels of study. I have been attuned with Reiki levels 1, 2 and Masters (which means I can give Reiki, do long distance Reiki, and teach Reiki.)

If you are curious how Reiki can work for you in your healing and your goals, contact me!

News For March!

The "I Love You February" Reflexology special was a HIT!

As I write this, there are only 2 more spots left, both for Thursday February the 25th. I expect those to be filled before the weekend is through.

It was delightful to meet so many new people and introduce them to the benefits of Reflexology. I love hearing the stories of how it has helped them get better sleep, feel better in their bodies, and begin to retrain their bodies and minds to relax!

We're heading into March, and with that comes a few new exciting things for Reflexology in Midland.

First, March 11th, I'll be moving into a new room within Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre. I'll still be on the second floor, but I'm moving into a room that was freshly painted in a wonderful calming blue and cream. It was painted about two months ago, so there will be zero fumes to worry about.

I'll be bringing some essential oils into the office, to mix in with an unscented foot lotion or oil for the massage at the end of your reflexology session. There will be a few different ones to choose from, depending on your preference. Essential oils have such wonderful effects on the body.

I will have available a small set of speakers for you to plug your ipod or phone into, to play your own relaxing music or playlist, while you have your Reflexology session. Just be sure you have more than an hour of music!

This chilly week has me searching for a warming pad to sit underneath you while you recline in the Reflexology chair. I'll keep you posted with how that search goes.

As always, I still offer the referral 'Thank You' of $10 towards your Reflexology session, when someone you've referred becomes a new client with me. You are free to use those immediately, or accumulate them.

Plus, the stamp card program is still running strong! When your card is filled with stamps from visits (or liking my facebook page!) you get a free session!

See you soon!

Aromatherapy.

So Exciting!

These tiny little brown bottles are only 3ml bottles. They have the stainless steel roller ball for easy application.

First on my list is some natural perfume for a girlfriend, with a topnote of peppermint.

My base oils are going to be a from a choice of all natural jojoba, sweet almond oil, grapeseed, and coconut. I'm very excited to get started! In just about everything I'm learning, you must not put essential oil 'neat' on your skin, with the exception of Tea Tree Oil and Lavender. So I'll be playing with blends.

I suffer from migraines and headaches, so I'm eager to concoct some blends to help me with that.

Also, I want to start making salves, lip balms, and some other perfume blends. Must wait for the bottles to arrive though. Soap would be fun too.

I think making the little pamphlets to go with the bottles will take more work than the actual mixing and blending of essential oils to base oils.

If you are looking for some oil blends, I can make them, or if you are looking for just the oils, I can help you with that too.

Reflexology Stops Time to Help You De-Stress!

I "had a pair of feet" yesterday. (This is how I will some times casually refer to having a reflexology session! It just slips out... sometimes it's easier for my mouth to say, than "I had a reflexology session." ) I had some time off, and didn't realize just how much I MISSED being in at Health Works Chiropractic and Wellness Centre!

I missed the ladies at reception, I missed seeing all the other practitioners that I work along side with!

The building has such a relaxing and friendly energy. I often lose track of time when I'm there. There's a mellow and healing energy from the time I walk in, that stays with me for the rest of the day after I leave. Welcoming clients into Health Works is a real pleasure.

Even after having some time off, it's nice to know that none of that healing energy is lost, or has to be rebuilt. I make up my massage table, get everything ready for my client, and spend a few moments meditating in my treatment room. By the time my client/guest arrives, I'm ready to deliver a relaxing and healing treatment!

Although Reflexology takes about an hour, while I'm in the treatment room, time seems to stay still and last forever at the same time! It is so great to help people relax and release their stress.

It's March break this week, and next week it's back to looking forward to "having a pair of feet" again!

My availability at Health Works chiropractic and Wellness Centre is Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30am, and the last appointment intake is 3:30pm. If those days don't work for you, I am available for weekend home visits too!

Natural Relief for Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are very common, affecting as many as 40 percent of teenagers & adults. Often brought on by stress, headache pain may be caused by the tightening or contraction of the neck and scalp muscles. These are called cervicogenic headaches because they originate in the cervical spine—the seven vertebrae of the neck.

Sufferers can find relief for tension and other types of headaches through reflexology.

Foot reflexology can be particularly useful for relieving tension and stress that can cause headaches by releasing tightness in the cervical spine. It is also used to treat migraine, cluster, and sinus headaches. Reflexology can help a person anticipate the onset of a migraine by tapping into subtle symptoms that appear before the headache.

What Does Reflexology Research Show?

Research has shown the specific techniques of reflexology to be effective and beneficial in many ways, impacting a variety of physical and psychological concerns. This discussion notes results gathered from year-long research project of 170 reflexology studiesfrom 21 countries with fhindings published inEvidence-Based Reflexology Research for Health Professionals and Researchers(Kunz and Kunz, 2008, RRP Press, ebook, 224 pages).

The studies were selected among those available because the abstract or full study information included anindication of dosing—how much reflexology work lead to reported results. This included information about the frequency (how often) and/or duration (how long) of technique application. They, thus, met the major goals of this research—assessing reflexology research to determineparameters for success or failure with reflexology technique application in reference to dosinginformation.

Assessment of the 170 studies showed nine areas of effectiveness for reflexology application:relaxation, pain reduction, ameliorating of health concerns, improvement in blood flow, aid topost operative recovery, impacts physiological measures such as blood pressure, enhances medicalcare, eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects, benefits mental health, eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects and complements cancer care.

Reflexology is NOT a Foot Massage

For anyone that may not know, or that may be trying reflexology for the first time-if you have bought a “deal”, and just to clarify what a FOOT REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT actually entails, here’s what you should know to help distinguish between a Reflexology Treatment as opposed to a foot massage.

The therapy is provided by a trained and Certified Reflexology Practitioner/Therapist.  There are several schools of reflexology.  A RAC trained and certified practitioner receives the highest standard of training and registered practitioners are assigned a membership number if belonging to a governing body/association such as The Reflexology Association of Canada (RAC).  An RCRT – Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapist must ensure they are continually upgrading their skills and knowledge.

The RCRT Professional Development & Continuing Education Policy & Guidelines were established by the Reflexology Association of Canada. Its mandate is to maintain professional standards for the profession, to maintain the respect and safety of the public and health professionals alike & to meet future regulatory requirements for both government and insurance bodies.  Among other stipulations, RCRT practitioners maintain 30 continuing education units (CEU’s) per 3 year cycle.

Upon an initial visit, a qualified practitioner will conduct a complete, thorough and confidential health assessment with their client.  Although safe for everyone, a few contra-indications are checked for before beginning a treatment.  A visual inspection of the feet will enable the practitioner to see if swelling is present around the ankles (edema), checking for plantar warts (highly contagious and should not be worked on or touched), and lacerations on the feet. To err to caution, best to avoid working on the reproductive system and reflexes of a client that is pregnant and in their first trimester. This is revealed when completing a confidential health record.

Using a precise set of techniques, and using mainly the thumbs and fingers, the practitioner will apply deep pressure (10-20 lbs. PSI) over the reflexes or nerve endings of the feet between 45 to 60 minutes.   Not to worry…for those of you who are ticklish, this will not make you giggle. Meant to be relaxing, if there are areas of tenderness or even pain, they are indicators of deficiencies and by working over the areas, help to restore balance to the body.

So, although having a foot massage is very nice, Reflexology is not a foot massage!!!

Reflexology to Reduce Stress

The less stressed out you are, the more resistant you will be to illness and disease. When you are stressed, your body becomes acidic, and an acidic environment is one in which disease will thrive. Minimize your stress, and you are far more able to resist disease.

Reflexology is a potent method for reducing stress! In some countries where Reflexology has been integrated into mainstream health care, research has been made that supports that reflexology has a profoundly beneficial effect on the healing process.

Reflexology is a simple and enjoyable thing that you can do for yourself to help keep your body stress free.
